  • More than Books

The Salt Lake Public Library System has a legacy of bringing literacy and enjoyment to diverse local communities since the late 1800s. Seeking a way to anchor the Marmalade neighborhood with a new library branch close to downtown, Blalock and Partners designers looked closely at creating a building that would serve as more than a place for reading books. They envisioned a textural space to inspire and unite the people of the neighborhood.

“Just like the exteriors of the building are textural and utilize a shadow play, we wanted to use some scalloped texture without it being too busy. The shape of Wovin Wall had some softness that differentiated itself and offered some acoustic support properties.”

  • Textural Space

The architects employed texture and shadow play throughout the two-story building as a nod to the feel of the surrounding neighborhood. Familiarity with 3form’s catalog of textural products and materials inspired designers to specify Studio by 3form Wovin Wall into the corner cafe and teen space. Both areas are on the main floor, so the Wovin Wall features unify the spaces. Completed in February 2016, the Marmalade stands as a civic icon to this proud community.
