Staying within budget, designers chose to create a visual journey with Swoon Profile tiles that span two floors of this office lobby that looks out to the San Diego Bay.

  • A Search for Art

During the rebuild of this historic building in San Diego, the developer challenged designers to find art for the two-story lobby walls. After searching for custom artwork, the team realized it was out of their art budget to hire an artist. Having held onto a sample tile of Swoon Profile, the designer envisioned a three-dimensional flowing design in a serene palette of blues using the three-dimensional tiles.

“A lot of projects don’t have an art budget, but this one did — and this client really appreciates art. They found that the Swoon Profile tiles were a more cost effective option than hiring an artist."

— Roxana Miu, Project Manager/Designer, Ware Malcomb

  • Installing the Vision

The designer worked diligently with the installers to ensure the integrity of the design remained intact. Through lots of communication between the designer and the installer on how the tiles were to be spaced and a consistent focus on the part of the millworkers, the project was successfully completed. The clients and occupants love the artistic essence the installation adds to the space.
